Title : ‘Barcode’
Print Size : 20 x 16 inches Edition Print : 8/30
After an uncomfortable but necessary overnight sleeping in my vehicle to catch predicted morning fog in this forest on Dartmoor, my day began with a two mile walk through sheep fields. At first the only light was from my head torch and after a few near misses with some barbed wire and good scare from the eye shine of the local sheep, I found my composition and set up my tripod just as the morning sun started to light up the fields behind the forest. The first few rays of light beautifully backlit the regimented trees and the saturated greens of the mosses. The fog diffusing the natural light perfectly communicates the serene beauty of Dartmoor in the early morning.

The Crowns Engine Houses at Botallack Mine, Cornwall perch where land meets the ocean and stand as a testament to a once booming industry. To get this particular composition, I had a precarious scramble along a narrow ridge, jutting out into the Atlantic Sea. This is a challenging spot to navigate to at any time, but on this occasion, I was out in the middle of a storm with the sea churning violently below and the light fast fading. Thick thunderclouds threatened to completely obscure the sun but after a long, tense wait nature rewarded me with a fleeting gap in the clouds. The divine light that broke through illuminated the rugged engine house with it’s glow – well worth the wait.

Media : Fine art Giclee printed on Hahnemuhle 308gsm, 100% Cotton Archival
On this freezing winter’s morning I had made my way to nearby Duncombe Park, intending to capture a different scene that I had noted previously of a fallen tree by the river. I set up and while waiting for the light to reach my intended composition, I looked around and behind me saw this perfectly illuminated lone tree standing out from the darkness of the woodland behind it. Once again, I was reminded that light is everything and turned my attention towards it.

Media : Fine art Giclee printed on Hahnemuhle 308gsm, 100% Cotton Archival
One early morning returning from a photo shoot at Elgol Beach, Isle of Skye, I caught a glimpse of a beached rowing boat sitting perfectly in this tranquil scene. The quiet light spoke of solitude, with the rugged cliffs and clear waters forming a picturesque backdrop. This was one of those rare occasions when I was lucky enough to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right composition – without any forward planning.

The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye feature beautiful aqua blue cascades tumbling from the mountains, creating a stunning, natural spectacle. Nestled in breathtaking landscape, these diminutive pools captivate nature lovers, photographers and tourists alike. I had visited the site to vlog and to photograph and found the place rich with opportunities. This studied image belies the fact that I was amidst crowds of other appreciative visitors as I took it. Despite that I would willingly have stayed longer but alas rapidly deteriorating weather conditions finally drove me away.

Title : ‘Falling Foss’
Print Size : 20 x 16 inches Edition Print : 18/30
Media : Fine art Giclee printed on Hahnemuhle 308gsm, 100% Cotton Archival
A beautiful walk through Sneaton Forest along May Beck leads to the lovely Falling Foss waterfall, a well-known beauty spot in North Yorkshire. The waterfall sits in a woodland gorge, so regardless of the time of day you can predict the direction of light – it will always fall from above. I took this shot on a reasonably overcast summers day from the bottom of the falls. There is a difficult decent to reach this spot so not make people take this route and in the relative isolation that this afforded me, the majesty of this special place was magnified.

Title : ‘Highland Solitude’
Print Size : 20 x 16 inches Edition Print : 2/30
Media : Fine art Giclee printed on Hahnemuhle 308gsm, 100% Cotton Archival
On a photography trip to Glen Coe, I passed this particular isolated tree a number of times as I made my way to and from my pre-planned locations. Something about this scene instantly drew me to the composition, I just needed the right light. The weather was variable on the trip, so the same scenery could look dramatically different from one day to another. On a day of intermittent sunshine and heavy rain, I knew this would be the opportunity to get an interesting shot of the scene. I set up my tripod in the rain and waited for the decisive moment to capture the emerging light hitting my subject. The result was this instance of calm in the wilds of the highlands.

Kennall Vale, a valley tucked away in a small corner of Cornwall, is one of my favourite places to wander and photograph. This serene sanctuary which now evokes thoughts of fairytales and Tolkien novels, was once a hub of Cornwall's industrial heritage, housing the Kennall Vale Gunpowder Company, a 50-building complex now lying in ruins. Nature has reclaimed this area leaving the landscape both captivating and thought-provoking, highlighting the delicate balance between humanity and nature.

Ribblehead Viaduct, on the Settle-Carlise railway, is a spectacular sight, soaring over the challenging terrain below. However, the construction of this impressive feat of Victorian engineering came at great human cost. So I wanted to take a less common image of the Viaduct, choosing instead to capture the long shadow that this imposing structure casts across the landscape below reaching out towards the graves of the men who died building it.

Title : ‘St Nectan’s Glen’
Print Size : 20 x 16 inches Open Edition
Media : Fine art Giclee printed on Hahnemuhle 308gsm, 100% Cotton Archival
Curiosity took me to this relatively unknown gorge near Tintagel which claims to be one of the most spiritual sites in the UK. Steeped in the folklore of King Arthur, St. Nectan's Glen, did not disappoint. The beauty of this stunning gorge, with its 60ft waterfall cascading through slate down towards moss covered rocks, took me by surprise. Perhaps it was just the way the mist and spray hung in the air, but, as I stood there, the mythology that surrounds the location felt tangible. I hope this image conveys not only the timeless power of nature which carved out this gorge but also the ethereal beauty of this place.
